I'm sure I wouldn't have #1 or #2, but #3 may surprise you.

Wow Chuck, I owned a GLH, a 1989 SHO and a few CV's. Outside of several Chrysler MiniVans over the years, the GLH was the only Chrysler I bought and the SHO was the only Ford I ever bought.

Dick,

One time Teresa and I made lists of all of the cars we've owned. Sounds like your list is longer than even mine!

Buddy of mine has a 87 GLHS. I never really gave the mini Mopars much thought until I drove his GLHS. That prompted me to buy a 92 Spirit R/T. That was a sleeper! I did a 14.4 bone stock in that car at the track. That was 5.0 territory back then. Knocked quite a few of them off on the streets. After turning up the boost, I buried the 150mph speedo. It was an extremely fun car that could handle, stop, and go quick.

Have a CV now. So 1 out of 3...

When you add stripes big tires and badging I don't see how its a sleeper, especially in the author stating that the cosworth was not very quick...Its almost the opposite of a sleeper in this case.

The CV is a sleeper because so many people continue to badmouth a Vega and it was made to go around corners, straight line performance was not in the cards. The biggest problem for the CV was the early years of emission regulations trying to be met.

From Wiki which is what I allways thought a sleeper is..

A sleeper (US English) or Q-car (British English) is a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior.[1][2][3] Sleeper cars are so called because their exterior looks similar or identical to a standard or economy-class car. In some cases the car appears worse due to seeming neglect on the owner's part, typically referred to as "all go and no show". While appearing to be a standard or neglected car, internally they are modified to have higher performance levels. The American nomenclature comes from the term sleeper agent, while the British term derives from the Q-ships used by the Royal Navy.

I understand where you are coming from and that is the normal sleeper definition. I think the CV relates to sleeper in a different way because of the early history of the Vega itself with all its problems, plus the initial pricing of the CV caused many people to ignore it. Hence the destruction of over a 1000 engines by GM for tax purposes because they couldn't sell all the 5000 cars they had anticipated. Now they are slowly gaining on the collector market where they have pretty much been ignored in the past.

Hopefully with the spike in collector interest people will put some money into them rather than leave them neglected for fear its money wasted..

Al, If you happen to be in the area, the Woodward Dream Cruise highlights tomorrow, we'll have 8-10 Cosworths there to show them off.
