The "Other" ride.

Postby Kenova » Mon Sep 17, 2018 11:42 am

I have had a few requests from fellow forum members for photos of my Nova.
Since a lot of us also have non H-body projects I thought maybe a thread for our other rides would be a good idea.
So what is sharing garage space, time, and money with your H-body?
Post up!

Here's a few shots of mine.

Hi Ken, Nice Nova, SB? BB? I know my dad's 74 Nova had the engine displacement above the fender side marker light i.e. 350 except for the 6 cyl cars which were blank like yours. Did they do the same on the earlier Novas? That Nova my dad had launched pretty good for a 350 2bbl and would drop 20-30 feet of rubber with little effort, even after the tranny lost 2nd gear, that TH350 drove around for 2 years with no second gear, I finally replaced the transmission when I owned it for a short spell, she unfortunately fell victim to the rust gods, turned into a Fred Flindstone car, the rear shock mounts rusted away and then when the subframe anchors began to pull out of the body I decided it was time to put her to rest. The motor just wouldn't die so I pulled it and after moving it several times, end up giving it away...one of my less than brightest decisions, it would have worked great for my H body build. I'm guessing your Nova is not a native Ontario car...or was it lucky enough to be spared the Ontario winters?

Here's my non-body project, just a bit of paint and trim work left and then its going onto "Collector Plates". It's a 1979, I've owned it since 1984 350/TH400 factory combo, all numbers matching, factory Camper Special. Originally white interior, switched it to black, originally single tone dark slate metallic, when finished it will be two tone Dark Slate Metallic/Silver. Spends it's summers hauling my restored 1978 11' Vanguard Camper and gets tucked away in my shop for the winters.

It was originally a 250 six auto but had been swapped over to small block when I bought it as a roller. I swapped in a four speed and sbc 400.
My Nova has spent it's entire life here in Ontario, but I'm thinking it hasn't seen very many winters. The previous owner replaced the dash (rot at base of windshield) and I replaced the front floor pans (because of the rot at the base of the windshield). It has had a re-spray in the original Sandstone (?) plus the current orange. I'm guessing the orange is about thirty years old. I'm sure there is some ugliness under the paint.

You have a nice lookin' truck. How long does it take to torque the lug nuts when you rotate the tires? Holding on to it as long as you have has put you ahead of the trend. They are getting quite popular now.

Clyde, is that Camaro a keeper?

Ken, that paint looks very nice for 30+ years. Someone has taken good care of it. How long have you had it?

As for the tire swaps I cheat, I use an impact on the steel wheels, (30+ years of tire stores using impacts on the steel wheel lugs nuts has over torqued them and screwed them up), and only put 4 nuts per steel wheel. I do put all 8 (new lugs nuts so I can install the center caps) and I torque the alloys. The steel wheels I just put on in winter in case I have to move it in or out of my shop in the winter.

Clyde is that your daily driver? Or is the other Chevy in the garage your daily driver?

My other, an 1980 Buick Riviera .. sbc 350 Rocket - 2nd year of the front wheel drives. Bought it for $800 and promptly put another $2500 into it replacing all the rubber in it including all the vacuum lines and all hoses etc .. new headliner and most of the 'consumables' etc (water pump, a/c compressor, alternator etc. .. it runs very well, and quiet and fast. Its my daily driver.

No, the Camaro SS is not my daily driver, it would not be good in the winter weather up here. I drove it once in the snow, it is not good. It's a great car with plenty of power (455 factory rating) so it's fun to take out sometimes in place of the Monza. Is it a keeper? Well, probably at this point......we'll see. My daily driver is a 2018 Malibu.

I bought it in '96, the previous owner bought it in '93. I remember him telling me he had a hard time finding the right colour of touch-up paint.
Turns out it's Hemi Orange Metallic.

Hey John, What is that on the back bumper, mini bumperettes? I've never seen those on a 60 before, they're cool looking. I assume the front has something similar?
