laff or cry your choise

have you ever done something so careless or just plain stupid that in one instant you cause yourself hours and hours of work ??? you don't know if you should laugh at yourself or just cry. i did one of thos just the other day. I was finally going to fill my newly built M-22 4 speed trans that I had already bolted up to the engine in the IMSA. of corse my transfer pump, hand operated, wouldn't pump. so I decieded, seing this special oil from a NASCAR race teem came in long narrow bottles with a tit on top like a tube of dap, that I could fill the trans by holding it at a 90 degree angle and squirting it in by squeezeing the bottle. not knowing if this would work and having already cut the tip off of the bottle I decieded that it would be a good idea to put the cap back on the bottle so as to not loose any of this expensive oil in case things didn't work out as planned. inserted the tip of the bottle with the cap on into the fill hole on the side of the trans . everything looks good. its going to work. pulled the bottle out and proceded to catch the cap on the bottom of the fill hole. you can guess what happened next. cap came off and fell into the trans. no easy way to fish it out. couldn't even remove the trans side cover. there was not enough room in the trans tunnel so out comes the trans, by my self this time,no fun at all. real fun getting my side cover off also as my brother has the nasty habit of double sealing with gasket maker on either side of the gasket so it is never ment to be removed but they never leak. even my trusty razor blade and a chisel hardly fazes this set up. it took me the better part of a half hour to remove it and another half hour to scrape and clean the sufaces. I had to send all the way to Washington state to get a Muncie side cover gasket so that took another 3 days. so you tell me :bang: or

Dude, don't be so hard on yourself.
We have all done similar stuff.
Except for me.
Unless you want to count the time I had just buttoned up my intake manifold and started to install my pushrods, the first of which disappeared from sight. It was right about then that I noticed the lifters sitting on top of my tool box. :bang:

Laugh or cry? Well I think it probably made you cry but for the rest of us...........well it's pretty funny. Sorry............ I had a similar problem when I rebuilt my trans and forgot to put one snap ring on the shaft. Out comes the trans again .........yeah, I wanted to cry.

Everybody makes mistakes, live n learn. I put my clutch disc in backwards and had to pull the trans. lol

I don't bother with paper gaskets when possible anymore.

At least it was your car on your time.
Worked with a guy at a dealership who swapped a 3800 in a FWD C/H Body Buick.
Buttoned everything up top, raised car for bottom work and.....no flex plate. :bang:
Happens to the best of us.

I always say there are 2 kinds of people who don't make mistakes:
-those who don't do anything
-liars
