Import pricing Germany in '76

Postby GermanMonza » Wed Nov 11, 2020 5:19 am

I bought a German magazine from December '75 because it has the Monza in it. Found an ad for an import company, prices are including shipping, customs, paperwork, tech inspection for brand new 76 models.

I think my brand new Monza in NY was $4400+ in 1980 , with finance it was $5300.

Way under your prices in 76.

Import tax.. We have that too in Puerto Rico. :bang:

I'm very surprised that the Monza and Camaro are almost equal in price.

The magazine says you could buy your Monza from a dealership in Germany for 23,000 Mark - 9130 US$ in 1976 - and that it was in fact more expensive than the Camaro.
Then they went on and ranted about the low HP, the crappy brakes and how you can't see the gauges because of the steering wheel and so on. But they did like the design and the italian influence very much :D
