Huge CAR SHOW - (Not One H-Body)

Postby 74_Vega_GT » Mon Feb 13, 2017 9:04 am

So, I went to 2 car shows over the weekend that were both quite large looking for an H-body. The swap-meet section of the car show was large as well, still, no H-body stuff. I did see a Corvair Monza station wagon, but thats as close as it got. Seems like everyone and his brother has a Corvette or a Challenger or a Mustang, are these h-body's truly that RARE here in 2017? Ocala,Fl area.

I go to a couple large shows (100+ cars) every year around here, and my Mirage is always the only h-body. One is at a chevy dealer - there are rows of the new camaro and corvette, which does nothing for me, but not a single h-body.

I was at Zephyrhills Florida this weekend and going to Carlisle in Lakeland next weekend while I am visiting friends down here. I didn't see any H bodies but it is still nice to be down here.

Ironically I had my Mirage at the AACA Meet in Ocala at the Collage of off 200 on February 11, two days before your post, but yes they are rare, There was a Monza I saw in a junkyard in Bellview this past April, but that is about it

I wonder if you saw the red Monza 2+2 sitting just inside this used car lot on C-25. It's still sitting there, no back window,,,floorpans are gone..cheesy v-8, no AC. The guy wanted 2500 and I told him he could keep it. Its in very poor state.

I think that is the one, place looked more like a junk yard then a used car lot to me. I did not stop I was pulling my 28' enclosed trailer helping a friend who purchased a 56 Desoto. I was in the process of getting ready to head up north for the summer so I did have time to further investigate.
There was a 75 Vega last year at the Albright Show at the tax collectors office last year did not see it there this year. There are a few in Garllit's Museum but I am sure you saw those by now. I think what expedited the H body attrition was not many had A/C so when they hit the used car lots in the early 80's they were $100 specials which usually is the last stop before the crusher. There is the guy down in Dade City who has a collection of them he was liquidating in the fall. Never was able to get down there.
Too bad you did not go the AACA Meet in Ocala I had the Mirage there

Carlisle, PA had a good turnout this past weekend, 4 Mirage's, 3 Vega Wagons, a Skyhawk, at least 2 Monza's, a couple Vega hatchbacks and 18 Cosworth's. Probably missing some, see Ron's pictures here, http://s62.photobucket.com/user/rm617/l ... t=3&page=1

Wow, late post, thanks for the info John. No, I didn't make that show out on 200, but I remember reading about it and I have not yet gone out to the Don Gartits museum yet either. They just had a big Mopar show out there and I started to take one of my Crossfire SRT-6's, but decided, since it was really a Mercedes in Chrysler bodywork, I'd stay home.
~ I have been to several car shows in this area and have yet to see an H-body vehicle. It helps to keep the fire lit under my -%&& .. to get my Vega done.
