S10 NV1500 transmission

Postby Diesel Dan » Thu Mar 12, 2020 8:42 pm

Anyone use a NV1500 from a 1996-2003 S10 2.2L ?
This of course would be for a ecotec swap.

Neighbor has a whole parts truck, debating if worth grabbing parts before it goes to the crusher.

Dan if you are sure they will fit and the "Holy Grail" of parts, "if the price is right" I would. You can alway sell/swap them for a better fitting dream, uhm.... I mean part. I haven't even driven one of those transmissions so as to suitability, "I Got Nothin' " Harry

For years I've thought about a 2.0T, manual setup.
Seen builds where people used 2.0/2.4 ecotec engines from Solstice but cant use the trans since the shifter is too far back. They use the AR-5 from the Colorado/canyon instead.

I'm not familiar with the durability of the NV1500. If it's just a boat anchor then why bother?
Would like to measure the rear driveshaft too. Might be worth holding onto as a core to shorten.
Then there is the front brake assemblies.
Maybe the clutch/brake master assembly would work on my '56 P/U..... and the bench seat.

This thing is going to end up in my yard yet.

So it did end up in my yard.
Cut in half so wife has a little trailer to pull around behind the kubota.

Engine and trans and still in the front sub-frame, keeping as cores. From my searching the NV1500 isn't really desirable but when/if I get a trans from a Colorado/canyon from, say Pick-a-part I can use the nv as a core.

This thread is giving me ideas; I have a Canyon parts truck with a good 2.8 Ecotec 4 and an AR5. 175 hp would work well in a light Vega. I have only ever swapped V8's into them before, but this requires some investigation.
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....
