I missed it by a year! I wouldn't have had to cut up the floor on the El Camino like I did with the TKO.

You should see how much I had to carve out of my Nova to fit a T56 Magnum.

I would want to see the TKX in a Nova or Chevelle. If it fits without cutting up the tunnel then I may consider one for the Vega, although I'm not too keen on the TKX ratios when compared to the Magnum.
I guess I'm spoiled.

The TKO does have some wide spacing on the ratios, especially from 4th to OD. I actually wish it wasn't such a drop, but it really keeps the RPM down on the freeway.

I’m seriously considering this transmission. Planned on going with .81 fifth gear 2.87 first gear. I know I will have to change clutch plate and yoke. 73 Vega. Right now I have a Saginaw four-speed.Does anyone know if I will have to massage the transmission tunnel much. Which location is the shifter lever going to need to be. Don Hardy motor mounts and headers. Is there anything else I’m overlooking.

What gear ratio do you have in the rear end? If you want to play with different gear ratios try this calculator.

I have spent way too much time playing with it.
Try it with a trans and rear combo that you are familiar with. For example I usually compare the new ratios with a 2.52 wide ratio Muncie and 3.73 rear gear as that is a combo I'm very familiar with  . That gives me a better idea of how the new ratios will work for me.

The shifter that comes with the trans can be turned around 180 degrees to move the stick closer to the dash if it is too far back. I think the difference is 2 1/2 to 3 inches. A Hurst stick will bolt up to the shifter. There is also a third position but I think it is used mostly for trucks. I'm quite sure it would be too far forward.

My rallycross co-driver is Silversport Transmissions (SST) lead engineer.
https://shiftsst.com/

He's been working on the hydraulics for the early 4.6 Mustangs.
He says the TKX will fit much better than the TKO.
They will have "perfect fit" kits .... but quite pricey.

I've been playing with some trans ratios for the '81 Turbo T/A (and rear ratios). Getting a feel for max speeds per gear (shifting at 4,000 rpm), rpm drop per gear and cruising rpm at 70 mph.

I've also plugged these ratios into a video game, Xbox Forza Motorsport 7 .... using a similarly powered T/A (200 HP/330 TQ). It appears to be spot on with the calculators on SST website.
They have a great calculator for this stuff.
https://shiftsst.com/speed-analyzer

I attached a pic showing info for a TH350, 200R4, T5 (V8), and a stock F-body T-56 .... trans I had on hand at the time.
-- All shift points are at 4k rpm (limited for Pontiac 301)
-- Gear ratios across the top.
-- Rear gear ratio on left.
-- Max speed for each gear (4k rpm) underneath ratio.
-- 70 mph cruising rpm on far right.

I may have to plug some of the TKX ratios in ......

Here's the same info for the new TKX (Both versions with Wide and Close ratios).

Notice the "wide" ratio trans has a low 3.27 1st gear.
The "close" ratio trans has 2 different ODs available.

-- Still shifting at 4k for each gear (max mph).
-- 27.4" tire
-- 70 mph cruising rpm on far right.
