So I have a 77 factory V8 4-speed Monza hatchback. I just picked up a 77 factory V8 automatic Monza hatchback. My Monza has an open rear and the other Monza has a positraction rear. What would be the best way to get the posi rear into my Monza. I was thinking of swapping drum to drum but my housing and brakes are all good while the other is rusty and needs brakes and drums etc. So maybe not that way? Can you just pull the axles back and the center comes out and swap it that way? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

90% of the time it works, so give it a try. If its one those factory clutchless posi's , it wont last long.( broke one with a 151 4 speed , had to be torched out , cross pin bolt broke, cross pin spun in the carrier and wedged in solid)

Just check your pattern on gears with white grease, you can use the shims from both rears to get the pattern right if need be, but it should be a drop in.

What gears ratio do they have?

I mostly know Mopar rears, so I was wondering if the center section comes out intact like a 8 3/4 Mopar. I might be better off swapping drum to drum and switch the brake stuff over. I do not want to take the center section apart.

No the center section does not come out in tact like a ford or mopar. The pinion gear is bolted through the front of the housing. Sounds like a completr rear swap is what you need to do.
